the Butterfly Effect

Without a long academic analysis of the phenomenon called the Butterfly Effect, I want to use the concept to bring together two divergent viewpoints–  the enlightened approach versus what we now call #Trumpism. Definitions will emerge, just as a butterfly does.

I used the term Butterfly Effect while writing about my current intense grief over losing my 17 1/2 year old. She was my K9, but that does not diminish my sadness. Rather than call everyone I know to cry and lament over my loss, I tried to take a more zen approach. Continue reading

The #LastWord

or the last laugh? With a little time to reflect on the spectacle of the past few days,  maybe this McCain-planned week of “hero tribute” and flag waving  was a final flip off to #Fake45. It was no secret that Trump was persona non grata (aka uninvited.)

Zero Tolerance?

State of the US flag 2018
“Star Mangled Banner”  by Carol Chamberland

How distorted and unrecognizable must things become for US to realize that our grand old flag is becoming a relic, much like its confederate cousin. Red, white and blue stood for unity. Red and Blue can’t even talk to one another these days and White is now a racist point of contention– not the purity those stripes were meant to evoke. We’ve become the Divided States. #SAD but true. 17 years a dog slave…

aka the Unbearable Dogness of Izzi.

When my dog Isadora was still a tiny pup, I wrote about being a dog slave. I had been enjoying almost five years of dog freedom (after my big friendly Keylo Malamute died in 1996.) Training a puppy was definitely an adjustment: teaching her to use her doggie doors, walking on a leash, behaving (she never did learn that), food and treat schedules, and worst of all cleaning up after her. I was looking for that 2001 piece just now, but can’t find it. I did find the original of “The Divine Hamburger Lesson”  (that one is included in Seeing Clearly. ) That was a later lesson on tolerance and letting go. I was in a mood to rant and rail just now about caring for an elder dog , until I found this (something I wrote in 2008) and a reference that blows my mind:  Continue reading
