Admok with Bock

Hi Pen Pals, no one else will know what we’re talking about, but who cares. I haven’t posted for nearly TWO YEARS! Sorry about format (not too bad on a phone, worse on PC.)

So, this is an Admok M800 fountain pen with a Fine pt Bock nib (close up of the nib.) I’m sharing my experience about how this pen with Bock nib was writing when I first tried it versus a day later after various adjustments.

I first learned of this “Pelikan dupe” via Fountain Pen Therapy, and especially took note when it became a finalist for our pen friend Vincenzo. After watching other reviews, including Mick’s (A Stationery Addict) I decided this might be a Fine point for me.

As always, I rinsed the nib with distilled water but did not flush the pen (possible first mistake) and used the piston to fill some “mixed Manyo” as I call a blend of Sailor ink I’ve used before. First try: TERRIBLE. It was skipping, faint as you see in top writing sample. That’s when I posted to Mick and he suggested some of the “tricks” to increase flow.
As with other pens and videos on “spreading the tines”, I can’t really do it on my female nails or by “pulling” and no shims to try (as DoodleBud suggests.) I did apply light pressure several times, testing and repeating. I also used some “rough” paper, even brown paper to see if that helped. What seemed to help the most was when I flushed the pen with distilled water and refilled with FWP ink. THAT is crazy as Ferris Wheel Press ink is often dry, but this pen loved it (or maybe just the flush?) I think it was a combo of all above. I’ve now tried on Rhodia and Midori, in addition to the newest Sanzen Tamoe River paper. All working great. I’m very happy now, as I wanted an alternative to some of my other expensive and cheap pens.

I chose the Bock because I have Schmidt nibs on other pens and agree they are juicy and reliable. Also have JoWo, both mediums and love the OmniFlex on two pens, one black nib. As for the quality of the Admok, I realize this can vary on Chinese pens, but this one is really nice– the resin, the smooth capping and the piston seems to work fine.

So, as Vincenzo (and I) always say, there you have it! Hope this helps others who want to try this pen. Write on.
