Radio Free Albemuth Movie Review: Faithful Adaptation of the Philip K. Dick Novel

Finally, a new Dick flick! RFA (the movie based on a 1985 Philip K. Dick book Radio Free Albemuth) is available for viewing! I watched via Amazon.com streaming video. Here’s my article about the film in PKD Otaku #31 (just published August 20, 2014.) Here’s the FULL Edition of PKD Otaku #31 (NOTE: it’s a few megs, for those with slow connections.)

I was more generous in my review on Amazon.com In the Otaku piece I had to be honest with the Phil fans, about some issues in the movie as well as my ongoing concerns about the book. On IMDB (Internet Movie Database) I gave a middle ground review , and also posted a Phil FAQ. As I mention in the FAQ, the Otaku piece will cover the RFA book background and other issues.

Meanwhile, here’s a great RFA review, from one of the newest members of our Facebook Phil Fan group. You get an idea of the movie’s special effects here, and even better from the movie trailer (which I’ve had posted on this Kindred Content page for at least two years.) Has anyone watched the trailer? Well, now you can watch the entire movie from anywhere. That’s why I bought it from Amazon. It stays in my Amazon “cloud” (with my books and other music) and I can just click and watch it on the Kindle Fire anytime, anyplace. It’s worth the price to be able to pop up the pink bream hitting Phil (I mean Niki, I mean NICK 😉 ) in the head anytime I want and show my friends. Love it!

Finally, an oldie but goodie– a review of RFA the book from our PKD fan site. Enjoy!

Ancient of Days Podcasts

PinkLightShowAD

On Labor Day (Monday, September 2, 2013) Tessa Dick invited Anthony Peake (UK author and lecturer) and myself to be on her “Ancient of Days” podcast. Here is the audio link. It’s 90 minutes. Tessa was sick and asked me to keep it moving. I invited Dave Hyde, aka Lord Running Clam, to join us and provide the PKD history. Enjoy.

Then on October 28 Tessa invited me back to discuss my books (we didn’t really do that on the previous show.) I recommend advancing to the 60 minute mark since I was on the second hour of this program.

. This one is 60 minutes, if you listen to my second hour segment. Otherwise, it’s three hours!

AKS and Author in Otaku #23

As I called it over on Fbook, “the biggest, baddest, BEST issue of Otaku ever!” Someone quickly asked, “Otaku??” Yes, OTAKU… PKD Otaku!” The word is actually Japanese slang referring to people with obsessive interests. Obsessive is an understatement when it comes to fans of Philip K. Dick. Dickheads is our other affectionate term.

Anyway, this is the 23rd issue of Patrick Clark’s great zine, and the third one I’ve been involved with. My novel was featured in issue #21 with several pages of Q and A with me, book reviews and commentary on A Kindred Spirit. Issue #22 had a follow-up on AKS, plus interviews by me: one with Tessa Dick (Phil’s fifth and final wife) and a reprint of an old interview with Scott Apel on PKD’s Dream Connection. Now, this Exegesis-laden issue has a commentary by moi (ej ‘jami’ Morgan) about the newly released Exegesis of Philip K. Dick and another fine book review of AKS by Senior Dickhead (pronounce as Spanish or elder statesman) Frank C. Bertrand. I would link directly to those, but the zine is not set up that way. darn! You’ll have to page through the PDF starting here, Otaku #23, but admire the eye candy along the way — stunning!
