the Amazing AKS Free Book Project

In a moment of inspiration this week, I decided to begin the Great AKS Book GiveAway! In the fine tradition of the 1000 Journals Project (launched around 2001), I am going to place FREE copies of AKS (A Kindred Spirit, the novel) around Albuquerque, New Mexico and BEYOND!!

Free copies? “Have you lost your mind?” NO. These are older versions — either Sept 16, 2010 or March 6, 2011 editions (maybe even a few original FDO copies) that have errors. But, who can complain– they’re FREE! I was going to donate these remainders to a worthy cause, and I’m still willing if you have suggestions, but over the coming days (weeks) I am going to place numbered copies at various locations all around ABQ (and beyond.) If you find one, I would love to know where you found it. I’m also asking that you pass it on. If you want you can mark errors, or make your own corrections, but that’s not necessary. I have a long list of ERRATA that was fixed in those copies. You can make comments here, though, on anything: where you found the book, what you think of it, and hopefully where you left it. Because that’s the other catch…

I hope you will keep passing the books along. It helps everyone. YOU get a free book to read, you pass along a free book for another reader and maybe word of mouth will spread about AKS being a good read 😉 After all, it won Best Spiritual/Metaphysical eBook for 2011, from Poynter’s Global eBook Awards.

If you want your own copy, or a corrected one, you can click the BOOK on the home page for a list of current LOCAL and indie book sellers. You can also buy the trade paperback or Kindle version (only $4.95) on Amazon. (the link is good for either eBook or paper 😉

Finally, if you have suggestions about how to improve the Great AKS Book GiveAway , just leave us a note below! Namaste!

BTW, the First FREE book was left at Dion’s Pizza at Coors and Montano 10.11.2011. Did anyone find it? The next one will be left at…not telling until after it’s deposited. I’ll be leaving one every day for the rest of October (in ABQ, Santa Fe and other odd spots up “north.”) Then when I take the Great AKS Book GiveAway “on the road” in November/December, 2011, they could be ANYWHERE!!

suggestion: put a post-it inside the front cover that indicates it’s a give-away to whoever finds it, so it doesn’t wind up in the Lost/Found? try bookcrossing.com to see where one might travel to. a friend of mine volunteers at a homeless shelter and they’re thirsty for books of all kinds. might try to donate a couple there. if interested, i’ll get the name of the shelter for you. cool idea. remember the “money” tracker thing … had a stamp on it so the dollar bill could be tracked around the world. i think bookcrossing.com does something like that, but you could certainly just make your own marking on the inside cover and see what happens and where it goes. i think the whole think is great fun!!! kudos 😉

I actually WROTE in the front cover… and on the last page, but I still think they could end up there (Lost and Found.) Homeless shelters are a great idea… yes email any you know of. And, the fact the URL is all over the book and I wrote it AGAIN, I’m hoping “book finders” might log on. WELCOME to those who do!!! THX MO!!

Jami, great idea!! reminds me of Post Secret and it’s a great way to get your book “out there”. Mo’s idea about the homeless shelters is awesome. There is a shelter called “Joy Junction” that helps women get back on their feet after being homeless, might be a good connection as well being that you are a “published author”. Also, I have a friend that wrote a book and is lost on how to publish it. I told her about you and she would love to chat with you, is this something you would be open too?

Actuall book 5 was at satallite on Alameda. I found the book at 6:30 am Sunday. It was my last day in New Mexico after a week of working with horses. I am from Copley Ohio ( a town near Akron/Cleveland) and I wrapping up the week and wished I had a novel to read on the plane. I was going to be busy all day and knew I had no time to get to the book store.I stopped for coffee and burrito and there it was…a free book. A novel, and a spiritual one how cool! right up my alley. I enjoyed the book and felt drawn back to the charm and connection of the southwest. Thank you for your generosity and adventure. After finishing the book I eventually left it at the Nervous Dog coffee shop in Akron Ohio. I felt like I was sending my child on an adventure. I hope the book has a wonderful journey! Thanks,Lisa Deckert

HOW wonderful! I am so sorry I didn’t see this sooner. I had kind of given up on hearing back on any of these and of all days, I read this on THANKSGIVING. The Universe has a wonderful way of reminding us about What Is and what can be! Thank you so much, Lisa for posting. I am thrilled to know #5 in well on its journey, and thank you SO much for posting!! Namaste!!

Well, I came here to say I had decided to send more of the little babies on their way… I donated five copies as part of my pre-Thanksgiving rounds to deliver meals and food to some of the homeless and “safe houses.” And, #16 was left at the Montanita Food Coop on Rio Grande. I hope I get another update like the wonderful one from Lisa of Ohio!! Thanks again!

Yes, I have left a few more books around. I gave #17 to a friend and told him to pass it on when he finished. #18 was left in Espanola at Northern College Campus, #19 Rio Grande Credit Union lobby (San Pedro), #20 went to Truth or Consequences, and #21 was at the Shambhala Meditation Center (Ommmm.)

Yikes… several more went out over the holidays and the retreat. I’ll round up the info and post soon. Wish some other “finders” would post. It was so fun hearing from the lady who found one and took it to Ohio! Where, oh where, are the others, I wonder…
